What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember certain information about your visit — such as your session or preferences — and can be read on subsequent visits.

We use cookies to ensure CarSpanner works correctly, understand in aggregate how visitors use the service, and to transparently manage affiliate relationships. This policy explains exactly which cookies we use, why, and for how long.

4.2

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are required for CarSpanner to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core site behaviour.

Cookie Name Purpose Duration Data Stored
spanner_session Maintains your conversation ID so chat history persists during your visit Session (cleared on browser close) Random conversation ID — no personal data
cookie_consent Stores your cookie preference so we don't show the consent notice on every page load 12 months Your preference: all, necessary, or custom
No personal data. These cookies contain only technical identifiers. They do not identify you as an individual and cannot be used to track you across other websites.
4.3

Analytics — Plausible (Cookieless)

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors use CarSpanner. Plausible is a privacy-first analytics provider built explicitly for GDPR and CCPA compliance.

Plausible does not use cookies and does not collect or store personally identifiable information. Specifically, Plausible:

  • Does not use cookies or persistent identifiers
  • Does not fingerprint browsers or devices
  • Does not collect IP addresses (they are anonymised before processing)
  • Does not track individual users across sessions or websites
  • Stores only aggregate, anonymous counts of page views and sessions

Because Plausible is cookieless and processes no personal data, no cookie consent is required for analytics. All analytics data is hosted in the EU. See plausible.io/data-policy for full details.

Affiliate Tracking Cookies

CarSpanner participates in affiliate programmes. When you click an affiliate link, the affiliate network places a tracking cookie on your device. This cookie records the referral so that commission can be attributed if you subsequently make a purchase. This does not increase the price you pay.

We disclose these relationships openly. Our part recommendations are based on expertise and suitability — not on commission rates.

Affiliate Partner Network Cookie Duration Privacy Policy
ClassicCars.com ShareASale 30 days shareasale.com
Advance Auto Parts CJ Affiliate 45 days cj.com
Maxpeedingrods Maxpeedingrods Direct 60 days maxpeedingrods.com
Amazon Amazon Associates 24 hours amazon.com
eBay eBay Partner Network 24 hours ebay.com

Affiliate tracking cookies are set by the respective networks when you click a link — not by CarSpanner directly. Each network's privacy policy governs their use of this data, including any collection of IP addresses or purchase information.

4.5

What We Do Not Use

We want to be clear about what is absent from CarSpanner. We do not use:

  • Advertising cookies or retargeting pixels (no Google Ads, no Meta Ads)
  • Social media tracking cookies (no Facebook Pixel, no X/Twitter Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no Pinterest Tag)
  • Browser fingerprinting or device fingerprinting
  • Cross-site tracking or behavioural profiling
  • Third-party cookies for interest-based advertising
  • Session recording or heat-mapping tools that capture personal data
4.6

Cookie Consent and Preferences

On your first visit to CarSpanner, a consent notice appears at the bottom of the page. You may:

  • Accept All — Accept strictly necessary and affiliate tracking cookies.
  • Reject Optional — Accept only strictly necessary cookies. Affiliate tracking cookies will not be pre-placed, though they may still be set by partner sites when you click affiliate links and navigate to their domains.
  • Manage Preferences — Choose individually which cookie categories to enable.

Your preference is stored in the cookie_consent cookie for 12 months. You can update your choice at any time using the link in the footer.

Note on affiliate link clicks: Regardless of your consent choice, when you actively click an affiliate link and navigate to a partner site (e.g., Amazon, eBay), that site's own tracking mechanisms may activate. To avoid this, do not click affiliate links, or use a privacy-focused browser extension such as uBlock Origin.
4.7

Managing Cookies in Your Browser

You can block, delete, or control cookies at any time through your browser settings. Instructions for major browsers:

  • Chrome — Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari — Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge — Settings → Privacy, Search, and Services → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent CarSpanner from maintaining your conversation during a session. Other site functionality will not be affected.
