Vehicle & Part Overview
The 1977 Austin Princess (the "Wedge") was produced with several engine configurations. While the 1800cc B-Series (4-cylinder) is the standard for this year, the vehicle was also available with a 2200cc E6-Series (6-cylinder), which features a more complex manifold and twin-downpipe arrangement. Note that the Princess was never factory-fitted with a 1000cc engine; that displacement was typically found in the Austin Mini or Allegro

Austin was a core British Leyland and BMC brand spanning the 1950s through the late 1980s, covering everything from the A35 and A40 Farina through to the Maxi, Allegro, Princess, and the original Metro. Because so many Austin models shared platforms and drivetrains with MG, Morris, Riley, and Wolseley, parts cross-compatibility is extensive — the B-Series and A-Series engines in particular were fitted across dozens of variants. David Manners Group is the primary specialist for BMC/BL-era Austin parts, carrying mechanical components, body pressings, and trim items. Moss Motors covers Austin-Healey and some Austin models. Parts for later models — Princess, Ambassador, Maestro, Montego — are more variable in availability; the ADO71 platform (Princess/Ambassador) in particular has some scarce body pressings. Electrical components across all BL-era cars can be difficult: Lucas electrics from the 1970s are historically unreliable and some sub-assemblies are NLA. The main focus for most Austin restorations is mechanical reliability first, then cosmetic. Club connections — Austin A30/A35 Owners Club, Maxi Club, Allegro Club International — are often the best source for NLA parts.
When sourcing Full Stainless Steel Exhaust System for a classic car, it pays to verify the exact part specification against the vehicle's build date rather than model year alone — British Leyland cars in particular changed specifications mid-year without fanfare. Cross-referencing the original part number against multiple supplier catalogues often reveals equivalent components at different price points. For NLA items, owner club spares registers, eBay sold listings, and specialist forums are frequently the only viable route.
Finding parts for Austin Princess can be challenging. If the results above don't cover what you need, Geoff can search further.
